The semi-truck driver who hit and killed an Illinois state trooper on I-55 near Litchfield won't serve any jail time. 54 year old Johnny Felton, Jr., of Georgia, made a plea deal with prosecutors in Montgomery County and will spend the next two-and-a-half-years on probation. He will also be fined and lose his commercial driver’s license.
Felton admitted to "zoning out" before he hit Trooper Kyle Deatherage near Litchfield back in November of 2012. Deatherage was in the middle of a traffic stop at the time. Prosecutors reportedly consulted with the family and with the ISP before making the deal. The trooper's family is suing Felton and his employer for wrongful death.
