A driver is under arrest after police say he crashed a Corvette into an Alton home after a high speed pursuit, which caused two natural gas lines to burst. 22-year-old Spencer M. Mills of the 500 block of Josh Drive in Brighton is charged with two counts of fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer following the crash at about 11:30 Monday night.
Lt. Al Adams attempted to stop the older model black Corvette traveling West at East Broadway and Main for speeding when Mills decided to run. Mills then turned into a residential neighborhood and crashed the car into a home. Police say a woman was inside the house at Third and Langdon Streets when the car slammed into it, but wasn't hurt. However the crash broke two natural gas lines. The Alton Fire Department and Ameren were dispatched to fix the two lines. Mills allegedly tried to flee the scene but was later captured in the upper parking lot of the Eagles Lodge at 424 E. Broadway. He was transported to Alton Memorial Hospital where he was treated for a nasal fracture and bruised lung wall. He was cleared for confinement and was booked for Aggravated Fleeing and Alluding and DUI Alcohol after his blood was drawn due to his refusal of a breathalyzer test. His blood alcohol level was .179.
