The Alton Plan Commission has forwarded a petition that would allow a microbrewery to open in the downtown business district to the City Council. Richard Blevins Jr. asked the commission to consider a special use permit and a text amendment that would allow such an establishment to be operated out of a building located at 331 Belle Street.
Alton Deputy Director of Development and Housing Matt Asselmeier says that the approval came with a few restrictions.
The measure will be put into ordinance form and must be given two public readings by the City Council before it could move to the desk of Mayor Brant Walker for final approval. Asselmeier says the establishment could open as soon as October 1st if the owner receives his business license and other necessary permits.
