You probably have heard of craft brewers – the “little guys” of the beer industry who intentionally put out a small amount of beer, compared to the nationally known brewers. That movement is applying to wine and spirits as well. A bill sponsored by State Rep. Frank Mautino (D-Spring Valley) has passed the General Assembly and awaits the governor’s action.

It would increase the annual limit on craft distillers from 15,000 gallons to 30,000 gallons the first year and 35,000 a year after that. “One of them, FEW Spirits from Evanston, Ill., expressed their plans to move their operations to Wisconsin, because there was a cap that was in place, and they received an order for their product over that cap,” Mautino said.
