If a bill making its way through the Illinois General Assembly becomes law, we could see the potential for consolidation of at least two Riverbend units of government.  House Bill 3693 would allow townships to be dissolved if a majority of both the township board and the corresponding municipal board approve a dissolution ordinance.  It is a bill that has some supporters and detractors in Godfrey

Township Supervisor Doug Mueller does not support the plan, but Trustee Jeff Weber tells The Big Z he does.

Weber will soon be replaced in Godfrey, as he did not run for re-election.  So if the bill passes in Springfield it would be up to a township and village board with two new members to consider.  The bill initially came to light after State Representative Jay Hoffman (D-Swansea) introduced the legislation with much of the attention on a possible consolidation in Belleville.  Alton would also be able to consolidate if the bill passes.  It is currently sitting in the State Senate awaiting action.
