A police dispatcher that was charged in connection with a burglary investigation linked to an Edwardsville Police Officer has been found guilty of obstruction. 41-year-old Keri Knight of the 8100 block of Moreland Road in Bethalto was charged with two counts of obstructing justice and one count of theft earlier this year. She was found guilty Tuesday following a one-day bench trial.
Knight lied to Madison County Sheriff’s Department investigators as they looked into allegations against Brian Barker, an Edwardsville Police Officer suspected in nearly a dozen burglaries in the city dating back to May of 2012. Knight worked as a dispatcher for Edwardsville Police, and was accused of lying to police and removing money from the burglaries from her home to prevent investigators from discovering it. She could be sentenced to as little as probation to as much as three years in prison. Barker was charged on December 23 with burglary and official misconduct and has been suspended without pay pending the outcome of the investigation.
