Another step toward the realization of the Alton Multi-Modal Transportation Center will be taken in a couple of weeks. Alton Mayor Brant Walker recently signed agreements with the Federal Railroad Administration to obligate the TIGER Grant funding for the project.
The city is now ready to look for a design team to take the project to the next level, according to Greg Caffey, Alton Director of Development and Housing.
He says while there has been some preliminary interest in the land, nothing is being pursued at this point since the design portion of the process has not even begun.
In other city council business Wednesday night, the city's Public Works Department will have $450,000 at its disposal to upgrade equipment. The winning bid for the loan came in from Liberty Bank, offering the money at 1.85% interest.
