Area Democratic state lawmakers are gathering this afternoon in Belleville to protest the cuts in services they say will be necessitated if Governor Bruce Rauner’s budget plan is adopted. The elected officials will be joined by Metro East families at the Developmental Disability Services Building of the Metro East building today at 1pm.
State Representative Dan Beiser (D-Alton) says he will be joining with fellow representatives Jerry Costello II, Jay Hoffman and Eddie Lee Jackson, as well as State Senators Bill Haine and James Clayborne to oppose the governor’s plan.

He says the governor’s proposed budget eliminates and reduces services that provide job training, enhance educational opportunities and ensure medical care for those in need. Rauner has also called for the elimination of home-energy assistance programs for low-income families. Today’s press conference is scheduled for 1pm.
