The price of gas in Illinois is up two cents compared to a month ago. The statewide average now is $3.49, up from $3.47 last month at this time, and $3.36 a year ago, according to the Triple-A Daily Fuel Gauge Report. Triple-A spokesman Beth Mosher says this is expensive, especially for this time of year.

“Prices are still high. They’re higher than they were a year ago. If we look nationally, prices have set daily records every single day for highest prices for this day on record, so yeah, prices are still very, very high,” she said. Mosher says the trend since September is decline, and the price should go down as demand wanes, and she expects that by the end of December, the price will be at its lowest point in the year.
