Like hundreds of millions of other people in the nation, Riverbend residents will be rolling their clocks back an hour this weekend when Daylight Saving Time officially ends at 2am Sunday.  Daylight is already in short supply at the end of the day, and the time change means day will become night an hour earlier each evening until next spring when DST returns.

Wood River Fire Chief Steve Alexander says the twice annual changing of your clocks remains a good time to change the batteries in your smoke alarms.

Recent statistics indicate more than a third of all fatal fires happen in homes without working smoke alarms.  He says you should also change the batteries in your carbon monoxide detectors, and make sure both pieces of equipment are working properly.
