Congressman Rodney Davis (R-Taylorville) is hopes to get a meeting with the Federal Emergency Management Agency administrator to discuss the way FEMA considers local impact when making recommendations for a disaster declaration. FEMA denied Illinois' request and a subsequent appeal for disaster assistance following the December flooding.
Davis tells The Big Z a bill waiting action in the Senate would create new standards by which FEMA would determine the need for assistance.

Davis says he sponsored the legislation to change the formula so that Downstate Illinois doesn't get "punished" as has also been the case with other recent disasters.
