United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois Stephen R. Wiggington announced Thursday that his office collected just under $19.5 million in criminal and civil actions. Just under $10.1 million of that was collected in civil actions and just under $9.4 million in criminal actions.
The Southern District of Illinois also worked with other United States Attorney's Offices and collected a little more than $36 million additional funds with cases pursued jointly with these offices. Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch has announced that the Justice Department collected a total of $23.1 billion in civil and criminal actions in the 2015 fiscal year. Lynch says that these numbers represent the level of commitment of the DOJ to uphold the rule of law, safeguarding taxpayer resources, and protecting the American people from exploitation and abuse.
