Bikers beware: if you are making excessive noise as you travel through Alton, you can expect to be ticketed. A recent glut of complaints have come in to the police department concerning loud pipes on motorcycles, and Alton Police Chief David Hayes says some of his patrolmen have verified it is, in fact, a problem that will be dealt with.
Hayes says the various motorcycle clubs have been warned.
A couple of years ago,Alton passed an ordinance covering loud noises including, but not limited to, loud pipes on motorcycles. Signs were placed the city town that stated "When In Town, Keep It Down." Hayes says is getting a large number of complaints about the bikes along Broadway, Washington Avenue, and on to Humbert Road.
