Former Illinois Governor George Ryan has lost another bid for freedom. A court of appeals has turned down Ryan's request for an early release from prison. He's spent the last five years behind bars for corruption. The former governor has been approved to transition into a halfway house in Chicago in February, and is scheduled for release next July.
Ryan has attempted a number of appeals of his sentence, including an appeal to be released early due to the failing health of his wife. She passed away last year, but Ryan had been allowed to make several visits with her during her cancer treatment and was with her when she passed away. Ryan served as Illinois Governor from 1999 to 2003.
