The birthplace of Walt Disney is set to get a makeover. The home at 2156 N. Tripp Ave. in Chicago doesn’t look like much, but it’s where Walt and his brother Roy, the co-founders of the Walt Disney Co., lived until 1906. After the home went through many owners and many changes, Brent Young and his wife Dina Benadon bought the home and started plans to restore it and turn it into a museum.

“We’re really excited about this,” Young said. “We’ve got a lot more plans than just making this a beautiful exterior of the home, and bringing it truly back to what it was in 1901.” The couple is hoping to get the home designated as a landmark, though similar efforts in the 1990s failed. For now, the plan is to begin reversing alterations made to the house since the Disneys left, and open it to visitors by next fall.
Today is Walt Disney’s birthday. He was born Dec. 5, 1901. He died in 1966. Roy Disney was born in 1893 and died in 1971.
