A 3-month-old baby was taken away from his parents amidst allegations of abuse. Now his parents have been charged with felony Aggravated Battery To A Child. The Madison County State's Attorney's office has filed the charges against 20-year-old Vanisha Nicholas and 21-year-old Alexander Nicholas, both of the 400 block of Augusta Street in Alton.
According to the charges, the parents blocked their son's airway by placing their hand over his throat, and caused scratches to his neck. The child was taken away from them at the time the injuries were discovered, and the resulting investigation has now led to the charges against the two, according to Alton Police Chief of Detectives, Lieutenant Scott Golike.
The alleged abuse happened between March and May of this year. Neither parent is currently in custody. Each has a bond of $50,000.
