The Madison County Health Department is using grant funding from the state to launch several programs designed to improve the longterm health of residents in the county. The local initiative is part of a state-wide initiative called "We Choose Health", in which the state has identified several areas they would like to see improved. The latest announcement involves the installation of bike racks
The Madison County Health Department is coordinating that effort with Madison County Planning and Development, according to Madison County Health Department Promotion Manager Amy Yeager.
Yeager says the grants were awarded to the state by the Centers for Disease Control and that they aren't used to fund programs but rather to create initiatives that will lead to more long lasting effects rather than the temporary changes that can be created by short-lived programs. By the end of September, 115 bike racks will be installed at 20 sites around the county
