The Illinois Republican Party acted quickly to remove the Montgomery County Chairman after he dished out racial slurs earlier this week. Jim Allen faced scrutiny from local, state, and national party leaders after he called Congressional candidate Erika Harold a “Street walker” and “love child” of Democrats. Allen had been a supporter of incumbent Rodney Davis, but Allen resigned his post on Thursday.
Harold is an African American attorney and former Miss America, who’s challenging Congressman Rodney Davis in the 13th District Republican primary. Allen’s comments were made in an email to an independent Republican website and even drew criticism from the National GOP Party Chairman who called the remarks “astonishingly offensive” and called for Allen to step down. Congressman Davis also distanced himself from the comments, saying there was no place in his campaign for such remarks and personal attacks. Allen has since issued a statement, apologizing for his comments.
