Workers displaced as a result of the Olin Corporation’s move to Mississippi will be receiving assistance from the Madison County Employment and Training Department after the county board approved a measure on Wednesday night. The resolution gives the department permission to apply for and accept a National Emergency Grant worth no more than $600,000 from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.

Board members also agreed to authorize an $80,000 contract between Community Development and WellSpring Resources to provide case management for 20 units of transitional housing in Madison County.

In other business, the board approved a resolution to fund 420-thousand dollars worth of road improvement projects, that will go out for bid later this month. The planned project will include pavement patchwork to Seminary Road from the Alton City Limits north to Seiler Road, Moreland Road just south of IL Route 140 south to north Moro Road, and Moro Road from Oak Street easterly to IL Route 159. The board will award the contract for this project at next month’s meeting.
