Those extravagant renovations to Illinois' Capitol building in Springfield don't appear to be sitting well with frugal lawmakers. Recent reports of the 50-million-dollar taxpayer-funded renovations have irked several Illinois lawmakers including Senator Patricia Van Pelt. The Chicago-area Democrat said she's embarrassed the state is spending so much to refurbish the historic Capitol.
The itemized repairs include 320-thousand-dollars for historically accurate chandeliers and 160-thousand-dollars for two sculptures adorned on a grand staircase. New brass covered doors were also installed on the building totalling more than $670,000.
