The completion of Illinois 255 and work on the Corridor 67 project is scheduled to intercede at some point this year. Illinois 255 to the new Route 67 will take northbound traffic into Jersey County, and vice-versa. Completion of that section is thought to be done by the winter of 2012, taking drivers even further north on the improved roadway.
Eventually, Illinois Route 67 will be expanded from the mostly 2-lane highway to 4-lanes from Godfrey to Rock Island. Alan Gilmore heads up the Jersey County Business Association, and says money is getting tight. They recently converted some of the money allocated for engineering work to the construction fund.
He says there are plans in the works for larger industry to locate in the county, with a business or industrial park tentatively set for the south side of Jerseyville. The extension of 67 will play a part in moving traffic from St. Louis to the Quad Cities through West-Central Illinois. You can find a link to IDOT's U.S. 67 and 255 pages below.
