The Madison County Coroner has offered initial findings in the shooting death of a man by Alton Police on Monday. 27-year-old Isaac Jimenez of Worden died at the scene in the 3400 block of Lincoln Avenue in Alton, after he was wanted for questioning in a shooting case out of St. Louis County.
The coroner’s report says Jimenez died of a gunshot wound to the chest, and was also suffering from other non-lethal gunshot wounds. The coroner would not release the number of additional wounds or their location due an ongoing investigation by Illinois State Police. Yesterday, Illinois State Police confirmed Jimenez was the subject of a search by authorities in Worden early Monday morning following the shooting of a woman in St. Louis County on Sunday. The female victim remains hospitalized for a gunshot wound. Jimenez eluded authorities in Worden, but was spotted in the backyard of a home in Alton early Monday evening, and the homeowner called police. Four Alton officers responded and reportedly found Jimenez who was armed and would not drop his weapon. He was then shot by an Alton officer, and died at the scene. ISP will turn over its findings to the Madison County State’s Attorney.
