Illinois State Police troopers were forced to kill several cows that escaped when a semi overturned. It happened early this morning on westbound I-64 in St. Clair County, just of I-255. The semi apparently sideswiped a car, then flipped over onto its side. Police were forced to play cowboy and round up the cows, herding them onto another truck.
The four cattle that were killed had wandered onto the highway, posing a threat to motorists and had to be put down. The accident took place this morning around 1:35am and forced the shutdown of the roadway until just after 9:30am. Two people in the car suffered minors injuries and they were treated at Memorial Hospital in Belleville. The driver of the cattle truck was not injured.
