A 42-year-old Granite City man may spend the rest of his life behind bars following a murder conviction on Friday. John Holomon III was babysitting his girlfriend's son at a Granite City home in September of 2012 when Jaesen Rusher died. The autopsy showed the cause of death as a closed head injury.
The normal sentence for a murder conviction is 20 - 60 years in prison, but Holoman is eligible for extended time due to the victim's age at the time of the murder. He will have to serve 100% of his sentence. A Madison County jury delivered the verdict Friday after a week of testimony and about three hours of deliberation. Holomon was dating the child's mother at the time of the murder. Sentencing will take place in 6 - 8 weeks, and Holoman will remain in custody.
