The second in a series of local meetings to talk about the issue of race will take place tonight in Alton. Sponsored by the United Congregations of Metro-East, tonight’s event will include local mayors, police chiefs, clergy and the public who will talk about relationships in the community. Tonight’s event is being held at the Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church at 7:00.
The gathering is the second sponsored by UCM since the shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson last August. Reverend Charles Burton is pastor of the Community Fellowship Church in Godfrey, and former President of UCM, and says the simple purpose of the event is to start a dialogue:
