The contract control tower St. Louis Regional Airport in Bethalto has been included in the fiscal year 2016 Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development funding bill, which has passed the Senate Appropriations Committee. The bill also includes funding to strengthen FAA security to guard against attacks that occurred at the Aurora control center last year.

The fiscal year 2016 Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development Act includes $154.4-million for the Federal Contract Tower Program, that not only includes the tower in Bethalto, but five others in Illinois. The appropriations bill is now headed to the full senate.
