A contractor was injured Thursday while operating a forklift at Ardent Community Mills. The man was using the forklift to remove a piece of equipment when the forklift dropped 10 feet into the basement trapping the contractor. The ARCH ( Air Medical Services) helicopter was called to airlift the man to a St. Louis hospital.
The ARCH helicopter was originally to land at OSF Saint Anthony's Hospital but choose instead to land at the scene at West Broadway between Piasa and William Streets for a better response time. Crowds had already been gathering at the scene for the funeral procession of fallen St. Louis County Police Officer Blake Snyder and Alton patrol officers were brought in to block off the landing area for the ARCH team. The name of the contractor, and the extent of his injuries has not yet been released.
