Republican congressional races are sorting themselves out.  U.S. Rep. Joe Walsh (R-McHenry) is now going to run in the Eighth District, after having previously announced for the 14th, against fellow Republican Rep. Randy Hultgren (R-Winfield).  Walsh still has a primary in the Eighth, but not against a sitting congressman. He’ll face Darlene Ruscitti, the DuPage County regional superintendent of education.

The Eight District is less favorable to Republicans than the 14th, but State Republican Chairman Pat Brady says the party still has a decent chance. “That district has been trending our way in the last cycle, and right now the poll numbers that I’ve seen in that district, we’re actually a lot stronger than I think the Democrats thought when they drafted that district,” he said.  For Democrats, it’s Raja Krishnamoorthi vs. Tammy Duckworth in the primary.  This leaves only one race with two incumbent Republicans facing each other: Rep. Don Manzullo (R-Leaf River) vs. Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Manteno).  The new congressional map is under litigation, with a decision from the court expected within 10 days. Congressional filing has been postponed to Dec. 23-27.
