Alton's mayor says the city will "now be in the 21st Century," as computer software upgrades and training of employees is scheduled for Friday. This should bring to a close a three-year plan to get the city automated and completely transition to current technology.
Mayor Brant Walker tells The Big Z the new software in place will make city operations more efficient, using water billing as an example.

As a result of the upcoming work, City Hall will be closed at noon on Friday and all day Monday.
