The slated closure of the World Shooting and Recreational Complex in Sparta because of the ongoing budget impasse could mean event organizers passing on the facility in the future. That’s according to Republican State Senator David Luechtefeld who represents that area of southern Illinois.

Luechtefeld says there would be a negative economic impact both in the short and long term if the facility closes.

Luechtefeld says he is going to keep working to show the Governor that the state won’t save much money from the closure especially if workers are still going to show up to work.  Last week the Governor’s office announced planned layoffs would be on pause pending litigation but later in the week announced the closure of both the Sparta shooting complex and the Illinois State Museum and related branches are moving forward.  It’s now nearly a full three months of the new fiscal year and there’s still no budget in place.
