The Alton Community Relations Commission will meet for the first time tonight, and will choose a chairman, vice chairman and secretary. The new commission was established to address – according to the wording of the ordinance - the fair treatment of all people without regard to race, color, creed, or national origin.

Members in addition to the city’s Police Chief, Director of Economic Development and Housing and the City Attorney are Dr. Kenneth Spells, Ellar Duff, Peter Hough, Benjamin Golley, Cindy Lolly, Mike Varner, Cassandra Campbell and Jaida Moore. After electing officers, the commission will set a regular meeting schedule and adopt rules. The meeting begins at 7pm at Alton City Hall.
