The Alton City Council Committee of the Whole is again dealing with the police and fire pensions as major expenses as it gets ready to adopt its next tax levy. That levy totals just over $6.5-million, which is roughly 4.9% higher than last year. As a result, a Truth in Taxation Hearing will not be required according to the city comptroller.
Jeannie Cowan says the newly proposed levy will come before the full council tonight.
In other committee business, the resolution to move forward with the Multi-Modal Transportation Center was laid over. Concerns over the financial details of the resolution were cited by Alton Director of Development and Housing Greg Caffey. The full council meets tonight at 7:30, due to the short holiday week.
