Lewis & Clark Community College has an adult education program that is pushing its Project READ program right now, hoping to get more people into better paying jobs.
Recent statistics show over 93 million Americans have only basic literacy skills, and that in Illinois alone, more than one point seven million people do not have a high school diploma. Project READ coordinator Sheila Vaughn tells The Big Z many people go through life unable to read because they are embarrassed to admit that.
