The Madison County Board has approved the use of the Code Red system that will allow any resident of the county to sign up for early warning messages. The system would primarily be used for getting out emergency weather information, but could also be used for other public messages about floods or evacuations. The system will be available to anyone living in Madison County.

The Village of Godfrey adopted the Code Red system earlier this year and has been used several times during severe weather events. Code Red is voluntary, and the user must sign up through the company website if they want to be notified by either home landline phone or by cell phone. The program will be activated in a few weeks, and residents will receive specific instructions as to how to sign up if they do not have access to a computer. It will be available to not only Madison County residents living in unincorporated areas, but also anyone living in a city or village within the county.
