Janet CraigThe lone social worker at Civic Memorial High School was honored Tuesday with the Peabody Energy Leader in Education Award.  Janet Craig was surprised by representatives of the company, co-workers, students and family during the lunchtime award ceremony.   Craig has been at the school for seven years, and works with more than 100 students a month.

Craig was nominated by Civic Memorial Principal Debra Pitts, who was a past winner of the award.  In addition to serving the students at school, Craig is a LifeSavers advisor, which provides students with peer support in a weekend retreat setting.   Craig was nominated by Pitts in a letter at the beginning of the school year and she was selected by the company from 42 nominations.  As part of the honor, Craig received a check for $1,000 from Peabody Energy.
