The Clark bridge has reopened after a scrap metal truck overturned this morning in Alton, spilling crushed cars and car parts into the westbound lanes of Highway 143 as the Berm Highway begins. Alton Police responded to the call just after 8am this morning and were on the scene for more than three hours as debris clean up continued.
Sergeant Gary Cranmer of the Alton Police Department says that it is likely the truck was moving to fast when the driver attempted to turn onto the highway.
Sgt. Cranmer also says that there were a few minor injuries caused by the wreck which included the driver of an SUV that was in the lane next to the truck. They were taken to local hospitals for treatment, but there is no update on their condition at this time. The names of those involved have not been released.
