A program instrumental in moving the city of Alton to address problems in the Hunterstown, Middletown and Mexico neighborhoods is in the process of being eliminated. The Weed & Seed Strategy was launched with the help of a federal grant, but that went away years ago, and now the Alton City Council is set to eliminate the title program, at least in name.

Weed & Seed’s law enforcement component is designed to reduce crime and violence to improve resident quality of life. It resulted in efforts directed at identifying, apprehending, and prosecuting the most serious and visible criminals in the neighborhoods to the fullest extent of the law.
