Car crashes are the leading cause of death of children, ages 3-14, but many of these deaths can be prevented through the proper use of child safety seats. There is an event coming up tomorrow in Alton that will allow you to drive up to a checkpoint and see if your kid's seat is properly installed. If it's not, it will be by the time you leave.
Riverbend Head Start and Family Services spokesman Kristen Gosling says they will be setting up a drive-thru of sorts at the Essic Robinson Center at 1802 E. Broadway, next to the police station.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, child safety seats can reduce fatal injury by 71 percent for infants and by 54 percent for toddlers, ages 1-4. Tomorrow's event is free and runs from 1:30-3:30pm.
