April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, and a kick off to raise awareness is being held on Friday, April 1 at the Madison County Administration Building in Edwardsville. The theme for this year's campaign is "Child Abuse Prevention: Everyone Has A Role To Play!" Organizers hope to raise awareness about child abuse and neglect and encourage individuals and communities to support children and families.
Tina Culp, with the Oasis Women's Center, tells The Big Z there will be a lot of information shared that day, as well as the Oasis Clothesline Project.

A number of county officials will speak at the event that gets started at 10am. Experts say efforts to prevent abuse and neglect before it happens include helping young parents and new parents develop skills to help them be ready for the responsibility of raising a child.
