The biggest city in Illinois is also America's murder capital. According to FBI stats, Chicago logged more homicides than any other city in the nation last year, even more than New York City. There were 500 murders in the Windy City last year, compared to 419 in the Big Apple.
That's despite the fact that Chicago has about one-third the population of New York City. The FBI says 69 percent of homicides committed last year in the U.S. involved a gun. Just last night, more than a dozen people were shot at a basketball court on the city's south side including a three year old. Four of the victims are in critical condition. Police have not made any arrests and say the shooting appears to be gang related.
