A study by the Illinois Commerce Commission has found the state is good to go when it comes to installing electric vehicle charging station across the state. The report says that, at this time, installation of charging stations would not have a large impact on the electrical grid, but as more electric cars hit the roads that could change.

The report also found that the installation and use of quick charging stations, which draw more power, must be properly managed or there could be impacts on the grid. The report comes after the ICC held workshops to explore if Illinois’ electrical infrastructure was suitable for electric vehicles. One workshop estimated that by 2020 there would be 110,000 to 415,000 electric vehicles on Illinois’ roadways.
