A 19-year-old Wood River man is charged with two counts of aggravated battery to a child. Alexander C. Brooks is accused of injuring his then 5-month old son last December. Doctors at Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center in St. Louis discovered multiple fractures after the baby's mother brought him there for an exam.
The baby is reportedly recovering nicely, and now police want to bring Brooks into custody to face the Class X felony charges, according to Wood River Police Chief Otis Steward. He says it looks like the mom was not wise to the father's alleged actions
During the course of the investigation, it is believed Brooks was alone with the baby, at which time he would shake and squeeze the infant, causing the injuries. After receiving treatment, the child was temporarily placed in the custody of a family member of the mother. Brooks' bond was set at $250,000.
