Alton homicide detectives have built a case in the shooting death of a man Wednesday morning, and the Madison County State's Attorney has filed a first degree murder charge against 20 year old Christopher Stewart of Alton. The victim's body was found inside a garage just after 2:00am in the 800 block of Brown Street after police received calls of shots fired.
Alton Police Chief David Hayes says the victim 24 year old
Carlos Reeves, of East St. Louis was found by police and pronounced dead a short time later.
The home location on Brown is between Pearl and Union Streets. A report says both men were present at a small party at the home at 824 Brown Street on May 16 when the shooting took place. Chief Hayes says the two men were familiar with each other prior to the incident. Stewart is being held on a bond of $1-million at the Madison County Jail. This is the first homicide in Alton this year, but Hayes stresses the overall rate of violent crime continues to fall.
