Charges have been filed in the death of a Granite City man. Fifty-four-year-old Charles Weiss was gunned down behind his Granite City home last Thursday. Four juveniles were taken into custody over the weekend, and three are charged as adults. A fourth, younger than 15, may yet be certified to stand trial as an adult.
Currently charged are 15-year-old Markeith Reynolds Jr. (pictured, top) of the 900 block of Iowa Street; 15-year-old Shawn L. Russel (pictured, middle) of the 1700 block of Second Street; and 16-year-old Brian L. Taylor (pictured, bottom) of the 1100 block of McCambridge. A fourth teen, younger than 15, is being held at the Madison County Juvenile Detention Center in Edwardsville. He could also be certified as an adult, pending the results of a hearing. The St. Louis Major Case Squad was called in to assist in the investigation over the weekend. Robbery is believed to be the motive, and investigators say the crime was a random act.
