A 42-year-old Edwardsville man has been charged with a dozen felonies after an alleged struggle left him, and an Edwardsville Police Officer, with gunshot wounds. Investigators say a search warrant was being served to Jay A. Hanks of the 300 block of South Fillmore Drive after a tip from Jerseyville Police about possible child pornography activity coming from that IP address.
It is alleged Hanks displayed a handgun, at which time a struggle ensued while officers tried to remove it from his possession. During the struggle a single shot was fired by a Madison County Sheriff’s Deputy, hitting an Edwardsville Police Officer in the hand and Hanks in the jaw.
