Charges have been filed in connection with recent vandalism at the Greater Alton Church in East Alton. A church administrator discovered someone had discharged several fire extinguishers and broken multiple coffee thermoses during the early morning hours of April 1st. That someone, according to the Madison County Sheriff's Department, is 21-year-old Jeffrey A. Priesmeyer II.
Investigators with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office immediately initiated an investigation into the vandalism after it was reported. Information was developed which led investigators to Priesmeyer, who lived in the area, according to Captain Mike Dixon. He says Priesmeyer was initially pointed out by wary neighbors in reference to another situation.
Dixon would not comment on a possible motive or state of mind, other than to say it was a senseless act. Priesmeyer is charged with felony burglary, having allegedly been found in possession of an item from the church.
