The armed robbery of Liberty Bank on the Homer Adams Parkway Thursday afternoon has landed an Alton teen in jail, and facing a trio of felony charges. After allegedly jumping the counter, threatening an employee and demanding money, investigators say 19-year-old Mylon A. Hughes of the 1,100 block of Long Avenue left with an undetermined amount of cash. He was caught a short time later.
Hughes allegedly got into a getaway car that was parked nearby and fled the scene, but bank employees immediately called the police. After the witnesses provided a description of the vehicle and a license plate number, they tracked Hughes to the 1,100 block of Long Avenue, where he was taken into custody. He is charged with Armed Robbery, Aggravated Robbery, and Financial Institution Robbery, and is being held on $250,000 bond.
