An early warning system for all Madison County residents went on line about a month ago, and its usefullness has already been put to the test. Last week, the county's 911 system crashed after a construction crew severed a major fiber-optics line. Madison County Board Chairman Alan Dunstan says they immediately put "Code Red" into action.
Code Red is not automatic, so the user must sign up through the company website if they want to be notified by either a landline phone or by cell phone. You can find out more about the system by calling the Madison County Emergency Management Agency at 692-0537, or by following the link at this story at AltonDailyNews.com.
