In honor of President Abraham Lincoln’s accomplishments, the American Legion held the 79th annual national pilgrimage to the Lincoln tomb in celebration of the 16th president’s 204th birthday. Springfield mayor Mike Houston spoke: “The significance of his birthday and the remembrance of it signify the strength of his principles and values. From his humble beginnings he went on to become the greatest president in the history of our great country,” Houston said.

American Legion member from post 32 in Springfield, Bob Wesley, officiated to ceremony honoring Lincoln. “He ensured that our nation would endure and become the world’s beacon of freedom forever, shining a bright light of hope for all to behold,” Wesley said.
