The Madison County Child Advocacy Center was honored on Monday for it's work with children who are victims of abuse. The Southern Illinois Child Abuse Prevention Community Award was presented to the CAC as part of the kick off to Child Abuse Prevention Month, during a ceremony at the Madison County Administration Building in Edwardsville.
The Child Advocacy Center provides a kid-friendly atmosphere for children who are involved in cases of abuse or violence, whether they are the direct victims or witness the crime. The children can be interviewed at the center and the information can then be used in a potential criminal case. Tina Culp, with the Oasis Women's Center, says the center provides a much needed service:
The center has been open for ten years, and is housed at the Madison County facility in Wood River.
